How Wide Is Your Path?

proverbs 16-9 a man chooses his path either in sync or out of step with the LordIt’s often said that each of us is on a journey.  While this is true, it doesn’t mean that we are all necessarily headed for the same destination.  Whether by decision or default, we are all responsible for choosing our steps, and doing so wisely.

Proverbs 16:9 - New American Standard – states,                   “The mind of man plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.”

We have freedom of choice;  choice to believe, choice to follow, choice to rebel and choice to even ignore.  Yet for all of our plans, there are consequences to our choices.

Before each of us is the choice of two paths, and Jesus outlined them succinctly:

Matthew 7:13-14

“Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

So, if the proverb is correct in saying that the Lord directs our steps, how can it be that we wind up anywhere but the narrow path?  Disobedience.  We can direct our kids on how they are to behave, yet in many cases they do not obey.  We can direct our pets to sit and stay, but without patient and consistent training the odds are they will neither sit nor stay.  A philharmonic conductor can direct the symphony, but without complete obedience, his efforts become a sham and a shame.

The Lord has given us direction.  We choose, moment by moment, whether we will follow that direction or not.  Only by faithfully listening and following will we find our steps to be in tune with the Will of God, and on that path, we MUST be, should we desire to please Him or to seek His face!

The Goulds-Love Beyond Measure!

The Goulds God Leading Love Beyond MeasureI have always stated that the purpose of Gospel Music Roundup is to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ through song.  That’s exactly what this Artist Spotlight Group, The Goulds, is all about.  I’ve also always believed that there are few harmonies quite so tight as FAMILY harmony, and these folks have it in spades!

Tim Gould – Patriarch, Passionate Parent, Provider, Preacher.  I first met Tim while he was singing with the Missourians.  Every time I caught up with them, Tim always stood out as a man who loved the music and the Gospel.  As a devout family man, Tim loved to spend time with his two girls, Christa and Kelsey(aka KJ), and as the Lord would have it, those girls grew up singing gospel music and loving it.  Time finally came where Tim realized that his real passion, love and ministry was singing to and with his family, and together they began to sing at events.  This led to their own concert, then concerts, and it became clear that they needed to refine their focus, and follow the will of God.

If and when you attend one of the Gould’s concerts, you will be treated to a powerful testimony of God’s healing power and grace.  No spoiler, here;  I will just leave it at that.  But I will say I was praising God for that testimony!  You will also often have the opportunity to meet the “unsung hero” of the group, Tim’s Wife and the Girls’ Mother, Deb Gould.  Truly a woman that helps keep everything in order and moving right along!

The-Goulds-Looking-UpAs you listen to this Gospel Music Roundup Artist Spotlight, you’ll see the reason I chose The Goulds as my premier 2014 episode;  with such timing, testimony and tenacity, they are making great strides for the Gospel as well as within Gospel Music circles.  This past season, they attended, sang and The-Goulds-Love-Beyond-Measurewon their category at the National Quartet Convention, and have been traveling across several states, sharing their lives and their songs!  I encourage you to visit the Gould’s Website and Store to obtain both of their CDs, Love Beyond Measure and Looking Up!
